Minority Republicans held an emotional news conference Tuesday afternoon, charging that state Democrats want to gut landmark 2005 election reforms by using a federal fundraising account for Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's re-election campaign. House Minority Leader Lawrence F. Cafero, of Norwalk, and Senate Minority Leader John McKinney, of Fairfield, were joined by nearly two dozen other GOP lawmakers in blasting a pending request by the Democratic State Central Committee for a ruling on the issue before the Federal Elections Commission.
