Fire officials said things could have turned out much worse at two separate incidents last weekend where safety devices -- in one case, smoke detectors, and in the other, carbon monoxide alarms -- were not functioning. On Sunday morning, firefighters were dispatched to a Woodfield Village condominium to check the report of a possible malfunctioning CO detector.
