Fairfield firefighters extinguished an attic fire Thursday morning and officials said the homeowner alertly called the department once they smelled an odor of smoke even before the fire alarm was activated. Fairfield Fire Assistant Chief Erik Kalapir, the Incident Commander, said that had the homeowner not been home or not called when they did "this could easily have caused a great deal of damage during the holiday season."
