Fake power company rep scams $7.3K from Fairfield dry cleaner

A local business owner was scammed out of $7,300 by a man posing as a United Illuminating employee, who falsely told the dry cleaner's owner that power would be turned off because of unpaid utility bills. The owner of Kapri Cleaners, 2278 Black Rock Turnpike, called police Monday afternoon to report that a "well-dressed" man in his 40s, who she described as having a Hispanic or Indian background, issued the threat after coming to the business earlier in the day.
