Gilbertie was born in Westport, to Lillian and John S. Gilbertie, Sr. He was a former president of the Westport Lions Club and a longtime member of the Assumption Church. Gilbertie is survived by his wife, Beatrix DeFreese Gilbertie; son, Brian of Reading, Mass.; daughter, Linda Grace of Fairfield; step-daughter, Yvette DeFreese Pluijmen of the Netherlands; stepson, Jonathan DeFreese of Brookline, Mass..; five grandchildren; brother, Anthony Gilbertie of Westport; numerous nieces, nephews; cousins; and friends.
