The figures represent year-over-year growth of 61% and 59%, respectively, from a profit of $3.21 billion, or 32 cents per share, reported last year. Despite weakness in its oil and gas business, which was down 6% due to global declines in energy prices , the Fairfield, Conn.-based company said its fourth-quarter adjusted earnings, which exclude one-time items and account for discontinued operations, were 56 cents per share, better than the average analyst estimates of 55 cents from Thomson Reuters .
