A tree worker was conscious and responsive after a problem with his climbing spikes caused him to plummet more than 40 feet to the ground just after noon Monday, according to the Fairfield Fire Department. The man, who was not identified, did not have life-threatening injuries in the 12:20 p.m. fall, authorities said.
